Thank you for celebrating this Milestone with AMIBM

On 4-5 February, I was very proud to celebrate with over 150 colleagues and friends the 10th Anniversary of AMIBM with a symposium: “A Decade of Biobased Materials.”

Scientists from academia and industry gathered together with policymakers to look back with us at a decade of great science in the Biobased Materials arena. The truly, inspiring event filled with high quality presentations and dynamic discussions showcasing highlights from SMEs, young and more senior scientists and industry. The Biobased Materials field promises to be a vibrant area that is well-positioned to contribute to the energy, climate and manufacturing challenges our society is facing.

The sessions with careers after as well as at AMIBM, with scientists involved at AMIBM from the early days onwards and of current PhD-students addressed the wide range of topics and science at our institute ant the Brightlands Chemelot Campus. The high level international speakers put everything in context showing that a bright future is ahead for our institute. In that respect, special thanks to our keynote speakers, Prof. Hans de Vries, Prof. Pieter Bruijnincx, Prof. Karin Odelius, Prof. Kevin O’Connor, their insights were very invaluable.

I am deeply grateful to our faculty (FSE), the partners from Germany (RWTH/Fraunhofer) as well as the Province of Limburg who were crucial for the development of AMIBM and I thank everyone who participated and contributed for making this day so remarkable!

Thank you all and we look ahead to the next 10 year.

Prof Romano Orru
Scientific Director of AMIBM
