Denise Petzold publishes zine ‘De-composing Classical Music’
Denise Petzold, assistant professor at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and researcher at MCICM, published a zine titled ‘De-composing Classical Music: Decoloniality and Resistance’ based on the event of the same name held on October 2025.
The zine includes contributions by Pieter du Plessis, Eliz Gökdere, Erin Johnson-Williams, Jorge Lozano, Layam Nijem and Lian-Kai Yu. The zine takes up the playful and situated character of the workshop in October, shares the main insights of the contributors while also offering hands-on listening and writing exercises. During the workshop, classical music practitioners, students, and scholars reflected on and discussed the meaning of decoloniality within the context of classical music. You can read more about the event in a previous news item.
The zine is available for download via this link.
