Darian Meacham appointed co-investigator in national ROBUST programme
In March 2025, Prof. Dr. Darian Meacham succeeded Prof. Dr. Nava Tintarev as chair of the social sciences and humanities committee within the national ROBUST - Trustworthy AI-based Systems for Sustainable Growth programme.
The programme, which will boost fundamental research in artificial intelligence through public-private collaborations, has a total budget of over €87 million and will run until 2030. Darian joins a team of co-investigators from across the Netherlands, led by prof. Dr. Maarten de Rijke (UvA).
About the project
Supported by the Innovation Centre for Artificial Intelligence (ICAI), the ROBUST vision is to address the challenge of trustworthy AI-based systems in a multi-disciplinary, multi-stakeholder set-up, with knowledge institutes, industrial partners, governmental organizations, and societal stakeholders, in healthcare, infrastructure, energy, and the service industry. ROBUST combines the creation of economic opportunities with targets for social progress. It articulates and operationalizes this ambition by aligning its research agenda on robust AI with the United Nations’ sustainable development goals (SDGs).
UM is a partner in two ROBUST Labs, the TAIM Lab and the GENIUS Lab, as well as ICAI Brightlands Smart Health Lab.
