Bas van Alphen appointed professor Clinical Geropsychology at the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience
As of 1 September, we’ll welcome prof. dr. Bas van Alphen to the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience (FPN) as professor Clinical Geropsychology.
The chair focuses on the further development of clinical geropsychology, with a specific focus on diagnosis and treatment of long-term and severe mental health problems in the elderly. This position is part of the department of Clinical Psychological Science (CPS).
I see this chair as a wonderful opportunity to put clinical geropsychology further on the (inter)national map, both in science, education and in the challenging clinical practice. The elderly deserve the psychological care they need, and this chair offers opportunities for this.
Bas van AlphenIn addition to his new position at our faculty, Van Alphen is active as associate professor of Clinical Geropsychology at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, editor-in-chief of the Tijdschrift voor Ouderenpsychologie and head of our partner Mondriaan ggz's Topklinisch centrum for the elderly with personality disorders in South Limburg. His broad experience and expertise at the intersection of science and practice make him ideally suited to shape this chair.
We wish Bas a lot of success and fun at FPN!
