K.M.R. Maguire-Rosier, Assistant Professor in Disability Studies and the Arts
Kate is Assistant Professor in Art and Literature at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Maastricht University. Previously, she was Postdoctoral Research Associate on the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council-funded Care Aesthetics Research Exploration (CARE) project, at the University of Manchester in partnership with the University of London, Birkbeck, the National Heath Service (NHS) and the Whitworth Art Gallery. She was awarded her PhD in 2018 after obtaining a Macquarie University Excellence Scholarship. Her background lies in higher education and also the arts and she was an arts administrator at various dance organisations including Australian Dance Vision/institute, Critical Path and Ausdance NSW. She has taught at Macquarie University, University of Technology Sydney and the University of Sydney where she worked as Honorary Research Associate.
Her research has been published in academic journals including The Drama Review, Theatre Studies Internationaland Frontiers as well as industry platforms such as Critical Dialogues and The Conversation (Australia). She has co-edited How Does Disability Performance Travel: Art, Access and Internationalization with colleagues Christiane Czymoch and Yvonne Schmidt and is currently co-editing the first book in the new Care Aesthetics Routledge series, Care Aesthetics and the Arts with colleagues Réka Polonyi and James Thompson.
Kate is most passionate about creating curious and meaningful access to the space between academia and industry so that research takes place in and with communities. She is co-director of the Sydney Care Lab, a group of academics, artists and care workers including Janet Gibson, Kerry Harman, Meg Mumford and Maria Roman.
