K. Heidemann

My research is located at the intersection of political sociology and the sociology of education. Most of my work examines the link between social movements and processes of educational change and reform. I am particularly interested in how historically marginalized actors work at the grassroots of society to convert sites of formalized education, such as schools or adult education programs, into empowering vehicles of socio-political change. The main geographical focus of my work has been in the Basque regions of France and Spain, Buenos Aires (Argentina) and francophone Belgium.  I have published in academic journals, such as Sociological Focus, Comparative Sociology, the European Journal of Cultural and Political Sociology and the History of Education.
