"Optimization Of The Bariatric Treatment: Finding The Right Fit For Every Patient"

Obesity is a chronic and complex condition with rising global prevalence and major health and economic consequences. In the Netherlands, rates of overweight and obesity continue to increase, despite national prevention programs, highlighting the need for effective treatment strategies. This thesis evaluates the effectiveness and safety of several bariatric treatment options for severe obesity. Focus areas include the ring‑augmented Roux‑en‑Y gastric bypass (raRYGB), minimally invasive endoscopic bariatric therapies such as POSE and intragastric balloons, and pharmacological treatments including GLP‑1 receptor agonists. By systematically comparing these approaches, the thesis aims to support personalized and multidisciplinary care. The overarching goal is to improve long‑term outcomes by identifying the most suitable therapy for each individual patient, ultimately promoting sustainable weight loss and better management of obesity‑related comorbidities.
