"Cognitive Robotics For Insect Farming And Versatile Material Handling"

 

Kamil Bujnarowski presents the design and framework for a versatile cognitive robot designed as a co-worker to assist in the automation of insect farming. His work is part of the Horizon 2020 project ’Cognitive Robotics for automated and digitised Insect Farming’ (CoRoSect). 

Insect farming presents to develop into a promising solution in ensuring sustainable and resilient production of food and feed in the form of insect proteins. To achieve the required production volumes of proteins, insect farms scale up through investments into robotisation and automation. 

The environment inside an insect farm is challenging for automation as tasks and processes change over time. It provides valuable stress tests for cognitive robotic systems, exposing limitations in classical automation. To address these challenges, Kamil provides insight into the versatility of cognitive robotic systems to increase their scope and capabilities within challenging environments. 

The robot performs quality management and material handling tasks to handle rearing processes for three of the most commonly reared insect species for food and feed.
