"Multimodal Imaging in Oncology: Whole-body Approaches for Disseminated Disease"
This dissertation investigates how advanced whole-body imaging can aid in the detection and assessment of metastatic cancer. The focus is on patients whose primary tumor is unknown, and on abdominal metastases in colorectal and ovarian cancer. Techniques such as PET/CT and whole-body MRI not only help determine the location of tumors but also provide a better understanding of how the disease spreads.
The results show that in many cases, these techniques help to locate the primary tumor or detect additional metastases, especially when previous examinations did not provide a clear answer. In addition, it appears that better-organized collaboration among specialists can lead to faster diagnoses and more efficient care.
This study demonstrates that the smart combination of different imaging techniques and collaboration in healthcare can contribute to better and faster decisions for patients with complex forms of cancer.
