"Is stressed really desserts spelled backwards? The effect of work on unhealthy snacking behaviors"
Given that the current obesity pandemic has exposed billions of individuals to the risk of suffering from negative health consequences like cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancers and musculoskeletal disorders, reducing the prevalence of overweight and obesity has become one of the most important global public health objectives of our century. Ever-increasing rates of overweight and obesity have been largely attributed to our contemporary obesogenic environment, in which unhealthy snacks have become common and easily accessible. While initial research has pointed to the work context as playing an important role in triggering unhealthy snacking, not much is known yet about what exactly drives day-to-day work-related snacking behaviors. In light of the increasing prevalence and pressing implications of unhealthy snacking, this dissertation aims to expand our understanding of how daily work-related processes influence unhealthy snacking behaviors by further uncovering what, why and for whom work-related processes influence daily unhealthy snacking behaviors.
