The Maastricht Election Series

-

In the run-up to the Maastricht municipal elections on March 18 2026, MOSaR is hosting The Maastricht Elections Series: Local Democracy in Action. This two-part event series offers an accessible introduction to local politics and how the city council shapes daily life in Maastricht.

Municipal politics may feel distant, but city council decisions influence housing, mobility, sustainability, public services and more. These sessions provide an opportunity for both Dutch and international students and staff to learn what’s at stake and engage directly with local political actors. All sessions will be held in English and are open to an international audience. Participation in both sessions is encouraged, but not required.

Session 1: Explaining the City Council
Tuesday March 3 2026 | 18:00 - 19:30 hrs
Learn how the city council works and what’s at stake in the upcoming municipal elections, with room for questions and discussion.

Session 2: Debating the Issues
Tuesday March 10 2026 | 18:30 - 20:00 hrs
A moderated debate on three policy themes between political parties represented in the city council. After the debate, there will be informal drinks and snacks where you discuss the issues with each other further.
