Biodiversity Challenge

-

Join in the fun activities during the Biodiversity Challenge from 30 April to 2 July! The challenge focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area within a short period of time. The Biodiversity Challenge is a nationwide initiative, with various educational institutions taking part. Together with 53 other Dutch knowledge institutions (#biodiversitychallenge2026), we want to showcase the interesting and varied flora and fauna found on our campus and in the surrounding area.

How can you take part?

Taking part in species counting is very easy:

1.    Create an account on Waarneming.nl, where you can enter species directly, or you can do this via your phone (see 2).

2.    Download the ObsIdentify app onto your phone.

3.    Link your Waarneming.nl account to ObsIdentify in the app.

4.    In ObsIdentify, take a photo of the species you’ve spotted and follow the instructions to identify it.

5.    Upload the species (if you’re sufficiently certain). Your sighting will be automatically added to the Biodiversity Challenge BioBlitz if you’re within the area of one of the participating organisations.
