C.L.B. Stein

I am a Teaching Fellow at Maastricht University’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASoS), where I teach and mentor students in Arts and Culture, European Studies, and Gender and Diversity Studies. My approach to teaching is both academically rigorous and grounded in the realities students bring into the classroom, with a strong focus on problem-oriented, interdisciplinary, and inclusive learning environments.

Alongside teaching, I supervise bachelor theses and internships and work as a mentor coordinator. For me, mentoring is not just academic guidance—it’s about helping students find their voice, build confidence, and engage complexity with curiosity and care. I continuously develop my teaching practice through training in areas such as inclusivity and diversity,  stress and anxiety management, mindfulness and playful learning.

My academic background is rooted in the cultural and social sciences. I completed my MA in Arts, Culture and Society at Erasmus University Rotterdam, where I wrote an ethnographic thesis on cultural participation at the Performance Bar Rotterdam. Before joining Maastricht University, I also taught at Erasmus University and worked as a freelance researcher and content producer, combining ethnographic research with storytelling and cultural work.

Across all these experiences, a central thread has remained the same: I am interested in how education, culture, and research can open spaces where people feel able to think critically, engage ethically, and connect meaningfully—with ideas, with others, and with themselves.
