Career history

Born and raised in the Netherlands, Bernard Rulof received a BA and MA (cum laude) from the University of Amsterdam and a Ph.D. in history from the University of Rochester (New York) in 1998. He is a historian of nineteenth-century France, with particular interests in political culture and rituals and popular politics and politicisation in the south of France. In addition, he is interested in socialist and social-democratic political styles and practices developed during the Interbellum years.
His teaching focuses on state- and nation-building, urban history and Area Studies.
In the years 2009-2011,he has been a member of the University Council.
