Valentina Golunova (V.)

Valentina Golunova is Assistant Professor In Digital Democracy. Previously, she worked as a PhD researcher and then Lecturer at Maastricht University.

Valentina's main research interest lies at the intersection of fundamental rights and digitalisation. Her PhD thesis addressed the interplay between algorithmic content moderation, the regulation of digital services in the EU, and freedom of expression online. At the moment, Valentina is pursuing research projects on the transatlantic dialogue on platform regulation, the EU's legal approaches to disinformation, and strategic litigation in the field of digital rights. 

Valentina teaches the course Constitutional Law in the European Law School bachelor.

Together with Mariolina Eliantonio, Valentina coordinates the Globalisation & Law Network. She is also part of the management team of the Maastricht Centre for European Law (MCEL).

Valentina also coaches students for the Helga Pedersen Moot Court Competition (with Šejla Imamović).

Valentina holds a Bachelor's degree in Law (Saint Petersburg State University, 2018) and LLM (cum laude) in International and European Law (Tilburg University, 2019). Prior to joining Maastricht University, Valentina worked at the human rights NGO Citizens' Watch (Saint Petersburg, Russia).
