Drs T.F. de Jager, MSc

Thomas de Jager, MSc, is a Lecturer in Quantitative Economics at the School of Business and Economics of Maastricht University. He is primarily involved in teaching within the Econometrics programme, while also contributing to other degree programmes such as Economics and Business Economics and Business Analytics.

His teaching portfolio mainly focuses on mathematics and statistics, covering a broad range of foundational and advanced topics. These include for example mathematical analysis, linear algebra, and statistics. His teaching is firmly grounded in the principles of Problem-Based Learning (PBL), as adopted at Maastricht University. In line with the CCCS framework, his courses are constructive, encouraging students to actively build knowledge; collaborative, fostering learning through group discussion and teamwork; contextual, embedding quantitative concepts in economically and socially relevant problems; and self-directed, stimulating students to take ownership of their own learning process. Through this approach, he aims to develop strong analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills that are essential for quantitative and data-driven disciplines.

Thomas is particularly dedicated to high-quality education and curriculum development in quantitative subjects. His teaching approach emphasizes clarity, structure, and conceptual understanding, helping students bridge the gap between abstract mathematical theory and its application in economic and business contexts.
