The International Relations Office (IRO) of University College Venlo (UCV) provides strategic guidance and expert advice for internationalisation and global engagement. IRO manages student mobility by coordinating the development and management of UCV’s relations with overseas universities and other strategic partners. We can be consulted on establishing international partnerships and connecting with networks and mobility opportunities for students. Incoming and outgoing students may contact us for assistance in arranging practical matters related to studying abroad.
Application Procedure
If you’re interested in spending a semester abroad at UCV, consult the International Office of your own university. All exchange students must be officially nominated by their home university first. The selection process varies from university to university.
After the IRO of your home university agreed to nominate you as an outgoing exchange student for University College Venlo, your nomination must be officially announced through e-mail. Note that the email must be send by the person in charge at your home institution.
If we do not have an agreement with your university, it might be possible to set up an exchange agreement between your home university and UCV. Please check if your home university is interested and let them contact us.
Another option is to take courses at UCV as a fee paying student, the so called ‘contract education’.
For more information on the application procedure or ‘contract education’, send an email to ucv-iro@maastrichtuniversity.nl. Nominations can also be send to this e-mail address.
Deadlines
The application deadline for the Fall semester is 1 May
The application deadline for the Spring semester is 1 November
Language Requirements
Since the official language at our faculty is English and all courses are taught in English, exchange students are required to have an advanced level of the English language (comparable to the level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference) to be able to successfully complete their courses at our faculty (note that we do not require any proof of an English Language Test Score).
Our educational system, the Problem Based Learning (PBL) system, requires you to actively take part in the lectures, or tutorial meeting as we call them. Speaking up and actively taking part in discussions is a crucial part of the system and this will also influence students’ final grades. Therefore it is extremely important for exchange students to master the written as well as spoken English language.
If your goal is to improve your English, this is not the right university for you to come to.
Outgoing Students
The opportunity to gain experience abroad gives you a great advantage in today’s job market and will not only broad your career prospects, but also your personal horizon.
For UCV students and exchange is extracurricular. It is a unique opportunity for motivated and ambitious students to study at a university abroad and deepen your skills and knowledge. If you are interested in spending a semester abroad, contact IRO by sending an email to ucv-iro@maastrichtuniversity.nl.
Because University College Venlo is still a very young programme, there are only limited partnerships available. Feel free to come up with suggestions for future partnerships and we will look into the possibilities together!
