MSP - Virtual Student for a Day - Winter 2021 - Registration

What are Interreg projects?

Problem-Based Learning (PBL) is an important feature of studying in Maastricht. However, actually understanding what PBL is could be quite difficult if you don’t have the opportunity to experience it yourself. To help you get an idea of what PBL is all about, Maastricht University is offering Problem-Based Learning sessions. The events are both practical and playful.

How does it work?

There is no better way to experience Problem-Based Learning than by doing it yourself. We’ll give you a short introduction to our university and our education and then it is your turn!

With the help of our current students you will enter into a practical and playful hands-on PBL session.

You’ll be working on a real world case. This way you can experience how PBL works, how it helps you learn how to collaborate with others and how interesting it is to think about real-world challenges.

If this sound interesting to you, please sign up now so we can contact you when the next sessions will take place.

Questions & contact

Our students explain

Find out what our students have to say about Problem-Based Learning!

It is with great sadness that we mourn the death of Adriano van de Ven, 11 November 2020, at the age of 27.

Adriano was a master’s student at the European Law School. He came to Maastricht after having completed a bachelor's and master's degree in the field of Law at the Universidad de Chile. In Chile he developed a keen interest in criminal law, leading to his thesis entitled ‘Critical analysis of the legal regulation of abortion in Chile’. In 2019, Adriano was sworn in as a lawyer at the Supreme Court of Chile.

He was known as a very dedicated, responsible and kind person. We are profoundly saddened by his passing.

The Faculty of Law at Maastricht University would like to express its condolences to his family, friends and acquaintances as well as his fellow students and colleagues and students at the Universidad de Chile.

Room B. 1019 Bou 1-3 will be devoted to this loss and to those who wish to pay their respects and leave a message to Adriano’s parents.

It is understandable that a number of students - especially those who knew Adriano well - would want support in coping with his death. The UM Psychologists are there to meet with you, personally or in a group setting. You can contact the secretariat of the student counseling department, or contact the faculty study advisers Marja Elsenburg en Merle Verkijk. And of course the UM Student Chaplaincy, The Innbetween, also offers support by e-mail if desired.

The Innovator’s Legal Clinic (TILCs) is an initiative to promote entrepreneurship and creativity in the Benelux by offering specialized pro bono legal and strategic advice in innovation laws to entrepreneurs, creators, artists and start-ups. TILC is the successor to the Indie Art Legal Clinic and offers a broader scope.

TILCs is a student-led initiative managed by a team of bachelor and master level students under the leadership of Dr. Kalpana Tyagi.

Thanks to our diverse student portfolio comprising of over 20 nationalities in our Advanced Masters Programme in Intellectual Property and Knowledge Management (IPKM) and Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union (Jean Monnet Bachelor Modules on Intellectual Property in the Digital Single Market), we can offer you advice on different aspects of intellectual property and competition laws across the continents, with particular focus on innovation laws in the European Union.

TILCs is a pro-bono initiative of the intellectual property group of the Maastricht University, meaning that you can benefit from our free legal advice on different areas of intellectual property laws such as patents, trademarks, copyright and related rights and competition law.

The big picture

TILCs is a part of the intellectual property group at the Faculty of Law under the leadership of Prof. Anselm Kamperman Sanders’ Creative Entrepreneurship Initiative. The Creative Entrepreneurship Initiative engages in a diverse array of activities ranging from classes on intellectual property laws (such as the IPKM programme) at our Maastricht campus, specialized programmes and training sessions for government officials at our Brussels campus and workshops for creators and entrepreneurs across the Benelux.

e-TILCs: The viral legal aid initiative

‘When the going gets tough,’……. be more entrepreneurial!

In light of the current situation, where face-to-face meeting may not be possible, we are pleased to inform you that our pro-bono legal work continues uninterrupted. With some extra efforts, and specialized advice from our official partners and TILCs legal board, we have launched an e-TILC initiative. To set-up a meeting go to the end of this page.

Our partners

The Clinic is supported by the law firms VentouxAOMB and Ab Ovo, which provide guidance to our students. Our partner Muziekgieterij provides the venue for TILCs-related events.

The Innovator’s Legal Clinic (TILC): Think innovation, start with innovation laws

Physical discomforts while working (from home)?

Do you experience pain or discomfort in your back, neck, shoulders, wrists or other areas, perhaps due to sitting too much and/or working from home? You are not the only one! That is why UM offers an intervention, to help you target problematic areas and make working in your (home) office a little bit more comfortable. You can participate even if you do not have complaints (yet).

The research study

You will also be part of a research study into the effectiveness of this intervention. The study will be conducted by UM researchers from the department of Health Promotion as part of the Vitality Works project. For the purpose of this study, you will be invited to fill out several questionnaires: before the start of the intervention and upon intervention completion.

This is a follow-up study. The intervention is offered for a second time after the previous time proved to be successful.

Planning

The intervention and study will take up 12 weeks in total. We will get started at the end of October (exact dates to be announced) and of course we'll take the holidays into account. After registration has closed, you will receive a schedule of the Zoom sessions and the planned exercises per week.
