The Green Office is hiring a Communications Officer!

The UM Green Office (UMGO) aims to empower bottom-up student initiatives related to sustainability and to facilitate cooperation to achieve UM’s sustainability targets. The UM Sustainability Office leads the UMGO to ensure the proper direction of its projects and activities to the overall programme.

Right now the UMGO is recruiting for a new Communications Officer (10 hrs per week).

UMGO serves as a bridge between the university administration and the student body to work together towards a Sustainable Maastricht University, aligning communication and action.

  • We represent student interests on a university level regarding a range of different sustainability matters. Furthermore, we are committed to raising awareness and facilitating cooperation about sustainability amongst students and staff through different projects, events, lectures and more.
  • UMGO aims to work on different sustainability initiatives and projects in collaboration with the UM Sustainability Office. We aim to represent the student voice within the university and to help implement student insight within these different sustainability initiatives.

As a UM Green Office Communication Officer, you will:

  • act as a linking pin between the UM Sustainability Office and the student community.

  • support UM’s efforts to become more sustainable in working together and contribute to the projects and activities. You identify opportunities to increase awareness of sustainability issues (climate, circularity, and community) and change behavior towards these central themes.

  • make the sustainability efforts and results more visible to students and employees.

  • serve as a platform for other students and student or study associations and work together and side by side with the Green Network and other students (or associations) with an interest in sustainability.

Collage Green Office

Your Tasks:

  • Responsible for the following communication of UMGO & Sustainability Office activities and projects.
    • Creating and executing a coherent social media strategy 
    • Regular updating of the social media pages (Instagram, TikTok & LinkedIn) - posting between 2-3x a week
    • Maintain an up-to-date content calendar
  • Graphic design/content creation of content (merch/social media/posters) aligned to brand book guidelines. Previous content creation skills are a prerequisite.
  • Regularly connect and align with the Sustainability Office. Working closely with the Sustainability Office Communications Officer.
  • Expanding online and offline visibility of what UM is working on
  • Events content creation 
  • (co-)organize symposia, the Sustainability Days, and or workshops/meetings in collaboration with the UM Sustainability Office.

  • be active on several days, such as the INKOM, Introduction Days, Sustainability Week, Earth Day and Global Action Day to emphasize the activities of UM and to connect with its community (staff and students and others).

What are we looking for?

  • Some degree of experience with different software (ProCreate, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) 
  • Good design skills
  • Well known with different social media platforms and online applications and how to use them for marketing purposes
  • A creative and good feeling for generating content to write original posts and articles about Sustainability at UM. In short, identifying sustainability topics within faculties and UM-wide.
  • Open-minded and learning-oriented 
  • Able to work independently, managing several tasks but also closely within the team  
  • Learning-oriented and a pro-active mindset
  • Availability for one year 
  • Available for 10 hours per week 
  • Student at Maastricht University

Currently, the position of GO Communications Officer will be vacant for 10 hours per week. Working times and hours are flexible. You will be employed through InterUM, the employment  agency of Maastricht University. Salary is according to Green Office Student Assistant scaling. A contract will be offered to you for one year.
