New Scientist lunch lecture by Ron Heeren
On November 28, 2015 Ron Heeren presented glimpses of the ‘operating room of the future’ during a lunch lecture in Amsterdam.
With his colleagues of the Maastricht MultiModal Molecular Imaging institute (Maastricht University) and Waters, Ron Heeren is currently developing an intelligent surgical knife (Iknife), that should allow surgeons to differentiate between healthy and cancerous tissue, and to operate more precise. The aim is to solve the problem of unnecessary cutting in healthy tissue. The lunch lecture was organized by the magazine New Scientist and preceded the Dutch Gala van de Wetenschap.

That same weekend, Ron Heeren also presented a demo of the IKnife to visitors of the Eureka! Festival in Amsterdam.
