The Saudi royal family has survived the events of the Arab Spring unscathed. Does this mean that all is well, in the knowledge that problems such as youth unemployment, corruption and repression are evident? On social media, the discontent of young Saudis is apparent. And the country is in the international spotlight for its alleged support to IS and other jihadi groups, its brutal military campaign in Yemen and its bad human-rights record. Will Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman be able to restructure the country’s oil-dependent economy? And how should we understand the relation between the Kingdom’s domestic and foreign policies?
