Dreams, Morality and Terrorism
In many religious traditions, especially in Islam, dreams play a prominent role in decision-making.
Tonight, Rico Sneller will present some thoughts on the relation between dreams and terrorist acts, with regard to inspiration, psychoanalysis, and morality.
Many Islamic suiciders have reported inspiring dreams that have stimulated their actions. This should come as no surprise, since those preparing for execution will find themselves in extreme mental conditions.
Even if suicidal acts can be accounted for on a rational basis (e.g. by giving them a political explanation), it seems fairly unlikely that such accounts will be informative. Can we address them in a more satisfactory way?
