R.L. Janssen

Ricky is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Health, Ethics and Society. Her expertise lies at the intersection of Global Health, Science and Technology Studies (STS) and Medical Anthropology. She works with qualitative methods to explore how new digital health technologies and medical diagnostics work in different contexts. She also looks at how these technologies contribute to the changing roles of, and relationships between, patients, healthcare providers, and health services.

Ricky holds an MSc in Human Health and Nutritional Sciences from the University of Guelph (Canada) and an MSc in Global Health (cum laude) from Maastricht University (the Netherlands). She obtained her PhD in 2022 from Maastricht University, on research exploring the use of a novel digital health technology designed to support HIV self-testing in South Africa and Canada.
