International Women’s Day 2023

Wednesday 8 March is International Women’s Day!

A day dedicated to women's sense of solidarity around the world.

At the same time, 8 March celebrates womanhood and highlights women's social, economic, cultural and political achievements. There will be celebratory events, as well as demonstrations, by women and anyone who identifies with womanhood.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, in and around UM the following activities will be organised:

7 March - Women in Data Science (WiDS) Maastricht Conference. The Institute of Data Science is hosting its fourth edition of this conference, which features outstanding contributions from women working in data science, AI and related technology. All genders are welcome!

9 March - SDG Seminar: Building the Ecofeminist Movement, presented by Sustainable UM2030 & UM Green Office. Too often, the SDG’s are still regarded in silos. The organisation Women Engage for a Common Future (WECF) is convinced that in order to build a sustainable future and environment a holistic solution, reflecting the lived experience of people at the frontline of the environmental and climate crisis, is needed. At WECF, they take feminist action on three key intersections: sustainable development, climate and energy solutions, and a toxic free future. In their work, ecofeminism is a guiding principle.

Rebecca Heuvelmans (WECF) will elaborate on what ecofeminism means in theory and practice, take you along the path towards building the ecofeminist movement and share how you too can get engaged.
