Exploring The Senotherapeutic Potential of Polyphenols in Ageing and Disease: A Literature Review

Age-related diseases (ARDs) are the leading cause of death worldwide, yet effective treatments remain limited. Cellular senescence, characterised by cell cycle arrest and inflammation, has emerged as a key driver of ageing. This thesis investigated the senotherapeutic potential of two natural compounds, fisetin and quercetin, in animal and human models. Both compounds demonstrated promising effects in reducing senescence in animal models of ageing; however, clinical evidence remains limited. Fortunately, the field is rapidly evolving, and numerous clinical trials are currently ongoing or upcoming. If proven safe and effective, fisetin and quercetin could offer a novel strategy to promote healthy ageing, mitigate ARDs, and enhance quality of life in older adults
