“Cultural hegemony in Medical Education; exploring the visibility of culture in health professions”
Key words: Globalization, education, culture, health professions
We live in a globalized world with a widening and growing impact of worldwide interconnectedness, which has a direct impact on education. This brings many opportunities, but also threats, including educational cultural hegemony. This dissertation explores how educators in health professions education programs can foster discussions about culture and socio-political background within the curriculum. It explores the views of faculty facilitators experienced in global health professions education and sheds light on skills, tools and strategies to foster cultural discussions.
