"Advancing Conduction System Pacing: Comparative Outcomes, Quality Standards, and Clinical Integration in Modern Cardiac Pacing"
This thesis examined how pacemakers can stimulate the heart in a more natural way. Conventional pacemakers often activate the heart from the right ventricle, which can disturb the normal sequence of contraction and, in some patients, weaken the heart over time. The research showed that this pacing-related heart muscle dysfunction is clinically relevant and identified markers that may help recognize patients at greater risk. It then evaluated conduction system pacing, a newer approach that uses the heart’s own electrical wiring to preserve a more coordinated heartbeat. The thesis compared different conduction system pacing strategies and lead technologies, assessing their effectiveness, technical performance, and safety. It also contributed to European quality indicators and international recommendations for cardiac pacing. Overall, the findings support careful integration of conduction system pacing into modern practice, combined with standardized quality measures, appropriate patient selection, structured follow-up, and further long-term clinical research.
