MCICM Corona Conversations
The current COVID-19 crisis and the lockdown measures greatly affected classical music organisations. Concerts and tours were cancelled and classes moved online leaving musicians, educators, researchers and audiences to figure out this ‘new normal.’
The Maastricht Centre for the Innovation of Classical Music is organising an online space to share and discuss ideas and challenges during times of corona.
The MCICM Corona Conversations will provide an opportunity to discuss the current situation of online musicking as well as the future challenges that are to come. What aspects of existing online concert formats work? If not, why? How can we create new hybrid formats of both digital and live concerts? What challenges do Conservatories face when moving education online? What are the technological possibilities and shortcomings, and how can we work with them? Where is the audience in these online concert formats? How can musicians engage with their audiences and vice versa? What can we learn from other disciplines such as digital sound art?
Questions such as these will be discussed during weekly one hour Zoom meetings. A panel of experts, professionals and researchers will present their views in short pitches and discuss current and future best practice examples. Audiences are invited to contribute via the live chat. The Zoom seminars will be offered online on the MCICM website.
