Inaugural lecture Dr. Anke Sambeth
Appointed as "Professor of Educational neuroscience" in the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience
"Neurons in the classroom: Where brain meets learning"
Learning is part of our entire lives. We start learning in kindergarten, continue through school and higher education, and keep learning at work and from the people around us. However, we do not always learn in the most effective way. For example, many students do not know how to prepare effectively for classes or exams. In my lecture, I will explain how I plan to teach students at our faculty to study more effectively, using a training developed by colleagues at Maastricht University.
We already know quite a lot about which learning techniques help us remember information better. However, we still do not fully understand how the brain makes this more effective learning possible. In my lecture, I will discuss what we currently know about how the brain learns and how I plan to investigate this further in the future.
