The IGIR/IPKM expert lecture series addresses topics in the field of Innovation, Trade, Investment and Competition Law that are relevant to for today’s society. We invite speakers from academia and private practice to share insights on recent developments and to stimulate a debate with staff and students, in an informal setting.

Lecture title: “BumaStemra in the Digital Age: Licensing, Streaming and Generative AI.”
Abstract
In this lecture, Kees and Djèva will offer an inside look at the collective management of music copyright. Among other topics, they will discuss licensing negotiations with some of the world’s largest companies and explore the legal issues that arise in this context. They will also address the various challenges that generative AI services pose to BumaStemra, music creators and the music industry in general.
Bio Djèva David
Djèva David is Legal Counsel at BumaStemra. After obtaining her master’s degree in Intellectual Property Law, she worked at NORMA, Spinnin’ Records and Warner Music Group, specialising in neighbouring rights, (master) contracts, sample clearance, copyright and legal risk management. Combining her passion for music and law, she now continues her career at the heart of the music industry.
BIO Kees Bulder
Kees Bulder is Legal Counsel at BumaStemra, where he specialises in AI-related matters. In this capacity, he is a member of BumaStemra’s AI Task Force and provides legal support in licensing negotiations with online music services, including major streaming platforms. He obtained his master’s degree in Information Law from the University of Amsterdam in 2024 and also lectures at the ArtEZ Conservatory.
