Terms of Participation
Prerequisites: This training programme is specifically designed for lawyers and law students with no experience in empirical research. No specific statistical or mathematical knowledge is required. Concepts and methods, including Python programming, are introduced in simple and intuitive terms with the help of multiple hands-on exercises. It is important to keep in mind that each session builds on the previous one. Therefore, "à la carte" participation is strongly discouraged.
Practical: Participants must possess a computer with a stable WiFi connection. In-class exercises will be done through Google Colab. To use it, participants must have a Gmail address.
Venue: Maastricht University, Faculty of Law, Bouillonstraat 1-3, Maastricht (The Netherlands)
Registration fee: 600 euros. The ELS Academy may offer a discount of 200 euros for PhD researchers employed at a law faculty in the Netherlands.
Criteria: You have (1) subscribed to the ELS Academy Newsletter (https://elsacademy.nl/els-academy-newsletter/) and (2) participated or will participate in at least three ELS Academy events (https://elsacademy.nl/events/) (an overview of attended events is sufficient - proof of registration is required if the events have not yet taken place.)
Registration fees include coffee breaks, lunches, and one dinner.

Applications: Applications must be submitted before March 31, 2026 via the green button on the main page or via the this link. Applicants are asked to provide a CV and a short motivation letter explaining their interest in attending the Summer School. Decisions will be communicated before mid-April to allow participants to organise their stay in Maastricht.
