It often appears that contemporary societies are unable to respond effectively to crises such as climate change and biodiversity loss. The obstacles seem insurmountable: geopolitical tensions, corporate lobbying, insufficient political will, and even narratives about human nature all appear to conspire against a sustainable future.
This presentation argues that, while the situation is indeed alarming, it is not without hope. A key reason for this perceived paralysis lies in a set of entrenched ‘limiting beliefs’ within dominant scientific and policy frameworks – particularly concerning sustainability, law, and capitalism.
By critically examining and challenging these assumptions, the presentation seeks to reopen intellectual and practical space for action, and to highlight pathways that we can use to respond effectively to the most pressing issues of our time.
17:00 – 18:00 | Networking & Refreshments
Following the lecture, you are warmly invited to for an informal networking reception. This session is organised by the Green Team students from the Faculty of Law and the Green Office, providing an opportunity to continue discussions, exchange ideas, and make new connections.
