Citizen Science Matchmaking Event – Connecting citizens and science
During this event, you as a citizen volunteer can contribute to research conducted by various academic and other knowledge institutions from the region.
What is the event?
Maastricht University Library has received an NWO grant to organise a meeting on Open Science. Citizen science is a form of Open Science: an initiative by the academic and scientific community to make scientific research accessible to everyone.
This event will be a combination of a science fair and speed-dating, designed to connect research projects with citizen volunteers. Researchers from various academic and other knowledge institutions in the region will present their projects in a fair-style format at a stand, which will be visited by citizen participants following a rotating system. Researchers will incorporate an interactive citizen science element into their presentation, providing visitors with the opportunity to participate in a citizen science activity directly.
Research projects
The following projects, among others, are participating in the event:
- Development of AI for parents of school-age children

What is citizen science?
Citizen science means that ordinary citizens actively participate in the research process: from formulating questions to collecting and analysing data and developing solutions. Participation is particularly motivating for citizens because it provides insight into scientific processes and contributes to knowledge that is relevant and reusable. Moreover, it increases scientific understanding and trust in research, which is especially important today.
Do you want to make a valuable contribution to research in Limburg? Come to our Citizen Science Matchmaking Event and engage with researchers on topics such as the development of AI for parents of school-age children, an app for managing chronic pain using AI, or join a financial literacy workshop.
Melissa Prinz, Citizen Science Project Officer:
Research is meant to improve and support the lives of the wider public. Citizen science offers the power of science to everyone, by offering the power of everyone to science. We want to empower citizens to take active roles in research meant to support their community, and this event offers a wonderful chance to come see what it’s all about!
