Dutch language tests

Do you want to work as a medical professional in Dutch healthcare and is Dutch not your mother tongue? Then you need a BIG registration. This BIG registration requires a Dutch language proficiency certificate.

Do you already speak Dutch and only need a certificate of Dutch language proficiency for language levels B1, B2 or B2plus for your BIG registration? Then you can take a Language Skills Test with us.

Is your Dutch still insufficient? Then you can take a course with us to obtain the correct level. You can then apply for a certificate for BIG registration. This will involve additional costs.

Medical Dutch for non-native speaking doctors

Dutch language proficiency test B1 and B2 for healthcare personnel

Anyone wishing to work as a nurse in the Netherlands must be registered in the BIG register. Proof of language proficiency B1 (from the Common European Framework of Reference) is required for BIG registration.

Would you like to work in the Netherlands as a physiotherapist, physician assistant, midwife, social worker with a bachelor's degree or as a registered dental hygienist? Then proof of language proficiency B2 (of the Common European Framework of Reference) is mandatory for BIG registration. For an overview and elaboration of levels B1 and B2 see Levels of the European Reference Framework (CEFR).

The certificate you receive after successful completion of the Dutch language test B1 or B2 is proof of language proficiency and is valid for BIG registration until 2 years after issue. Should you wish to receive an additional certificate, we will charge a fee for this.

 

What does the test look like?

A full test consists of four tests: reading, listening, speaking and writing. This can be taken in one day or spread over two days by arrangement. A full test B1 or B2 takes 2.5 hours.

After the level determination you will receive your certificate as a pdf-file via email within 2 weeks after taking the last test part. The amount due must be paid online.
