  • only for UM students
  • free course
  • 6 sessions of 2 hours on campus

Taking this course has made me much more confident about my writing skills. Working with fellow students and exchanging feedback has helped with this in particular. Improving your writing skills is not only useful for writing for academic texts, but also for communicating with academics, colleagues or fellow students.

Content and learning objectives

In the 6-part writing course, you will follow a step-by-step plan under the guidance of an experienced teacher. During the writing process, you will work on your own text in a group and practise your basic skills independently in University Language (digital learning environment). This will help you to structure your texts clearly in correct Dutch. After each session, you will receive feedback from your fellow students and the teacher, so that you can deliver a clear and effective piece of writing at the end.

In this course, you will learn:

  • to structure texts clearly according to a step-by-step plan;
  • to define topics;
  • to determine the purpose of the text and the target audience;
  • to argue clearly;
  • to write in an attractive style;
  • to use GenAI as an assistant;
  • to give, receive and process (peer) feedback.

If you have attended all sessions and delivered a good piece of writing, you will receive a digital certificate.

This course gave me the opportunity to practise writing a podcast script. The sessions were enjoyable and interactive. Furthermore, the information was divided into easily digestible chunks. Each week, I saw my text blossom more and more into an intriguing mystery. Now I can start my internship with confidence.
