Anna de Jong (A.M.)
Anna de Jong serves as an Assistant Professor in the Private Law Department, following the successful defense of her PhD thesis titled “Security Narratives, Culture, and EU Law.” She is a recognized legal expert in the area of anti-money laundering, terrorism financing, and the Dutch/European art market, with several publications and consultancy projects on the topic. She is moreover a key contributor to the REVITALISER Project as rewarded with 1.5 million euro research funding.
Next to Revitaliser, Anna is contributing member of several academic networks, including multiple EU-financed COST-networks, as well as the Law & Popular Culture Research Network (LPC-RN), the Maastricht European Private Law Institute (M-EPLI), and the Maastricht Centre for Arts and Culture, Conservation and Heritage (MACCH).
Anna has a clear cross-dimensional profile; before joining the Private Law Department, Anna was a PhD researcher in the International and European Law Department. She was repeatedly elected as Chair of the PhD Council, and served as a full member of the Law Faculty’s Science Committee. As part of her educational profile, she has taught both Dutch and English-language courses at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels. Moreover, she has acted as the minor coordinator for the interdisciplinary Joint Minor Art, Law, and Policy Making and continuous to act as course coordinator for the course Law and Art.
In addition, she has organized and chaired various academic conferences and panels, provided direct guidance to moot court, negotiation, and client mediation teams —contributing to several successful participations from various Maastricht student teams— and currently holds a seat at the Faculty Council.
Prior to her academic career at Maastricht University, she has been employed by Clifford Chance and NautaDutilh, as well as having served as a client advisor at Rabobank Netherlands. She has a diverse educational background with an LL.B. in Dutch Law (Rechtsgeleerdheid) from Utrecht University, an LL.M. in International Law (Globalisation and Law: Specialisation in Corporate and Commercial Law) from Maastricht University, and an LL.M. from Duke University.
