Dr S.S.M. Rensen
Molecular cell biologist and immunologist performing translational research.
My current research aims are two-fold:
1. To unravel mechanisms involved in the development of cancer cachexia.
2. To eludicate the role of innate immunity in the development of complications of obesity such as type 2 diabetes and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
I am using state of the art techniques both at the molecular and the physiological level. New insights obtained using human material are studied in more detail using mouse models/3D cell culture systems and vice versa.
Specialties: Translational biomedical research, teaching (bio)medicine students
Thesis research involved the development of two knockout mouse strains and setting up promoter reporter assays in the context of the study of smooth muscle biology.
