January Comenius Teaching Fellowship Teaching Fellows Professionals in higher education can apply for a grant of 50.000 euro and a Comenius Teaching Fellowship for small-scale innovation in higher education.

February Valorisatieprijs UM Dean The annual UM Valorisation Prize rewards the UM dissertation with the greatest societal impact.
  WUN Research Mobility Programme Researcher The Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) Research Mobility Programme (RMP) is an opportunity for early- and mid-career UM researchers to apply for funding to visit any WUN partner. The award aims to help facilitate research collaboration leading to increased publishing, grant acquisition and training opportunities. Hence, researchers working in existing WUN research areas but also new areas with potential to develop a sustainable WUN collaboration are encouraged to apply.
  KNAW Van Walree grants (medicine) Medical students Medical students, who have not yet taken their finals and are studying at a Dutch university, can apply for Academy Van Walree Grants to present the results of research they conducted during their research internship at a foreign conference. These grants cover up maximally EUR 1,000.  
March King Faisal Prize Medicine Executive Board (after an internal selection) In 2021 this prize is awarded to scientists with a proven track-record regarding regenerative medicine in neurological conditions. 
  KNAW Dr. Hendrik Muller Prijs Executive Board / Dean The Hendrik Muller Prize for Behavioural and Social Sciences is awarded every other year to a researcher or group of researchers, either Dutch or working in the Netherlands, who has made a significant or valuable contribution to the behavioural and social sciences. Foreign researchers in the behavioural and social sciences whose work focuses on the Netherlands can also be nominated.
  ZonMw Medical Inspire Prize Researcher Programma 'Create Health and the innovative medical devices initiative'. These prizes recognise and stimulate medical technology research and innovations.
  KNAW Christiaan Huygens Science Award Dean This award encourages innovative research in mathematics, physics and space sciences, the disciplines in which Christiaan Huygens excelled.
April Huibregtsenprijs Executive Board (after an internal selection) The Huigregtsenprijs is awarded to a scientifically innovative research project that convincingly shows societal relevance.
  Ammodo KNAW award Executive Board (after an internal selection) This prize stimulates specifically fundamental science. The award covers all scientific disciplines. This prize is awarded to outstanding internationally recognised mid-carreer scientists working in the Netherlands who were awarded their PhD no more than 15 years ago. 
  Prix Galien Research Award Researcher This prize is awarded to a scientist, or a team of scientists, for direct and substantial contribution to fundamental or clinical drug research. 
  KNAW Early Career Award Dean Awarded to young researchers, working at a Dutch university / research institute, showing capability to further advance innovative and original research proposals. 
May Niels Stensen fellowship Two professors working at a Dutch university / research institute The fellowship enables talented researchers to gain research experience at a university or institute abroad.
  Eredoctoraat UM Dean UM bestows honorary doctorates upon people who have made an extraordinary contribution to science or society.
  KNAW Membership Executive Board (after internal selection) Each year, the Academy selects a maximum of sixteen new members based on scientific and scholarly achievements.
  United European Gastroenterology Research prize Researcher This recognises excellence in basic science, translational or clinical research in the areas of gastroenterology, hepatology and related sciences. The prize supports a future scientific research project from the early stage to successful conclusion.
June KNAW Jonge Akademie Executive Board (after internal selection) The Young Academy is a dynamic and innovative group of top young scientists with outspoken views about science and science policy. The Young Academy organises inspiring activities for various target groups focusing on interdisciplinarity, science policy and the interface between science and society.
  Koninklijke onderscheiding Executive Board (after internal selection)

  Dutch Data Prize Researcher Awarded to researcher, or group of researchers, with special contribution to science by making research data accessible for new or additional research.
July Dissertation Prize UM Dean This a prize for the best dissertation at Maastricht University (every 2 years).
  Dr. Saal Van Zwanenberg Ereprijs Researcher This prize is awarded to a researcher who has participated in research leading directly or indirectly to the development of pharmaceuticals (every 2 years, 2019).
  Postdoc Prize Professors at Dutch universities; Directors of Dutch research institutes The National Postdoc Prize is intended for postdoctoral researchers and assistant professors at a Dutch university or Dutch research institute who have received their PhD no more than five years previously from a Dutch university. The Prize is alternating between Arts and Social Sciences (2020) and Science and Medicine (2021). It is allowed to nominate an UD who works less than 1 year at the respective university. It is also allowed to nominate a candidate with the UFO profile  ‘onderzoeker’.
  Global Young Academy Researcher Applications are sought from young, independent scholars who combine the highest level of research with a demonstrated passion for delivering impact.
August Unilever Research Prize Dean (after internal selection) This is a prize for a talented master student.
September KNAW Descartes-Huygens Prijs Dean The prize, a grant of EUR 23,000 intends to cover the cost of a French researcher’s research residence in the Netherlands. It is awarded to a researcher who has contributed to Franco-Dutch scientific and scholarly cooperation, has been judged outstanding by peers, enjoys international renown in humanities or social sciences, and is prepared to spend approximately six months as a visiting researcher in the Netherlands. The prize is intended as an investment in future collaboration. Hence, preference is given to candidates with a career ahead of them.
  For Women in Science Awards / NIAS Fellowships Researcher The Awards honor five distinguished female scientists for significant discoveries in life sciences / Laureates of a NIAS Fellowship are awarded a residential fellowship for a semester at NIAS-KNAW in Amsterdam, and are provided a place to think, study and write, while being released from regular responsibilities such as teaching, administrative or clinical tasks. 
  Corrie Hermannprijs  Dean This prize is awarded to a female medical doctor who has contributed towards achieving the aims of the Vereniging van Nederlandse Vrouwelijke artsen (VNWA).
  Dr. Saal Van Zwanenberg Onderzoeksprijs Master students These prizes are awarded to master students (e.g. in pharmaceutical or medical sciences) in recognition of their research focussing on a (group of) drug(s).

October Heinekenprijzen Dean The Heineken Prizes for scientists and scholars recognise and reward unique achievement in the fields of biochemistry and biophysics, medicine, environmental sciences, history and cognitive science.
  Distinguished Lorentz Fellowship/Prize Dean The Distinguished Lorentz Fellowship (DLF) is awarded annually to a leading researcher to work on cutting-edge research at the interface between the humanities and social sciences on the one hand and the natural and technological sciences on the other. 
  Comensius Leadership Fellows Executive Board (after internal selection)  Experienced professionals in higher education can apply for a grant of 500.000 euros and a Comenius Leadership Fellowship. With the Leadership Fellow project, the Leadership Fellow must have an impact on education in several faculties or in an entire educational institution.
November Spinoza Prize Executive Board (after internal selection)  The NWO Spinoza Prize is the highest award in Dutch science. Each year, NWO awards the NWO Spinoza Prizes to three or four researchers working in the Netherlands who according to international standards belong to the absolute scientific top. The NWO Spinoza Laureates do outstanding, groundbreaking research with large impact. They serve as inspiration for young researchers. With this initiative NWO encourages top level research in the Netherlands.
  Stevin Prize Executive Board (after internal selection)  The Stevin Prize is awarded to researchers, or a team of two to three researchers, with international reputations. It is an honorary award celebrating what the winners have achieved in their scientific career regarding knowledge exchange and societal impact. It aims to serve as encouragement to continue doing excellent research with relevance to society. In essence the prize works as an impulse for scientific research and knowledge exchange and impact in the Netherlands.
  YERUN Research Mobility Awards Researcher YERUN Research Mobility Awards are competitive awards for PhD students, postdocs and early career researchers at YERUN universities. The programme provides support for researchers to undertake a minimum of 1-week stay at a YERUN partner institution from a different country.

Comenius Senior Fellow Teaching and Senior Fellows Mid-level experienced professionals in higher education can apply for a grant of 100.000 euros and a Comenius Senior Fellowship for small-scale innovation in higher education.
  Heineken Young Scientist Awards Dean The Heineken Young Scientists Awards are intended to give talented young scientists and scholars extra encouragement. They are presented to talented young researchers whose outstanding work sets an example for other young scientists and scholars. The prize is assigned to researchers who have recently received their PhD and are employed at a Dutch research institute.
