Fabio Simonetti (F.)

Fabio Simonetti is Assistant Professor in European Political History since 1900. Before joining Maastricht University, he taught Italian and European History, Politics and Culture at Brunel University of London and the University of Reading, where he also completed his AHRC-funded Collaborative Doctoral Partnership PhD in Italian Studies in 2021. His doctoral research was a history project in collaboration with the Imperial War Museums (UK), where he also worked up to 2017.

Fabio is also an Honorary Research Fellow at Brunel University of London, a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, and a Fellow of Advance HE in the UK (formerly the Higher Education Academy).

Expertises

Fabio is a historian specialising in Modern European History, with a particular interest in twentieth-century Italian (and Western European) history, war and military occupations, oral history, the use of egodocuments, and museums. He is particularly interested in exploring how war and occupation affect people and societies, and how people respond to and remember these experiences.
