Successful Duckrace raises nice sum for Refugee Project Maastricht

André Rieu and Claudia Sarti, the director of The InnBetween, fired the starting shot for the 5th edition of Duckrace Maastricht, which drew great public interest on Sunday. No fewer than 10,000 little plastic ducks were sold in the run-up to the race. Some 3,000 of these cute yellow creatures took part on behalf of UM rector Rianne Letschert and the University Fund Limburg. The sale of these 3,000 ducklings provided Refugee Project Maastricht (RPM) with a contribution of no less than € 15,000.

The entire proceeds will go to Refugee Project Maastricht and the Animal's Faith Foundation. The exact amount of money that will be divided between the two charities will be announced this week by the organisers of the Duckrace.

Initiated by The InnBetween in collaboration with Maastricht University, Refugee Project Maastricht is supported by the Municipality of Maastricht. RPM was created with a vision to build bridges between refugees from conflict zones on the one hand and students and the local Maastricht population on the other.
