Recap of Weekend van de Wetenschap (Weekend of Science) 2026
Together with MUMC+ and other Maastricht-based institutions, such as the Natural History Museum and Centre Ceramique, Maastricht University opened its doors last Saturday, 3 October 2026, as part of the Weekend of Science. We look back on a successful and inspiring day for visitors of all ages!
There was plenty to discover, from a visit to the Einstein Telescope Pathfinder and listening to nature with the help of AI at FSE, to mini-lectures at FPN and FHML and the Bizarre Tax Quiz at LAW. Young future scientists from Maastricht turned out in large numbers and clearly enjoyed meeting robot Temi at SBE, taking part in the treasure hunt at FASoS, and much more. There was something for everyone, giving visitors the chance to step into the shoes of a scientist for a day, complete with a real white lab coat.
Weekend van de Wetenschap (Weekend of Science) takes place across the Netherlands every year during the first weekend of October. Its goal is to give visitors a unique behind-the-scenes look at the world of science and technology. The programme is suitable for all ages, but is particularly aimed at families with children aged 8 to 14.
