Applying for a job at UM
At Maastricht University (UM), we are committed to a fair, transparent and inclusive application procedure that ensures equal opportunities for everyone, irrespective of their background, gender, age, nationality, or disability status. All candidates are treated with equal respect, and we adhere to strict guidelines to evaluate each application objectively and professionally.
Applying to vacancies
Find out if we have an opening for you by searching our vacancies website. Can’t find an open position that suits you? Stay updated on new opportunities by setting up a job alert with the 'Create Alert' button on our site.
If you see a vacancy that interests you, apply by submitting your CV and a motivation letter. Some positions may require additional documents, such as academic transcripts and degree certificates, so carefully review the vacancy announcement prior to submission. Each vacancy has a specific application deadline, after which the listing will no longer be available on our website.
You will receive a confirmation email when you submit your application. If you do not receive this email or if you have any general questions, please contact our Connect & Recruit team at recruitment@maastrichtuniversity.nl.
If you have questions about the position, please reach out to the contact person listed in the vacancy announcement.
Selection
Once the application deadline has passed, we will initiate the first round of applicant selection. Our goal is to contact each applicant within two weeks after the deadline. Selected candidates will be invited for a preliminary interview.
Interviews
The number of interview rounds depends on the job position and the relevant faculty or department. The selection committees will keep you informed about the status of the selection process and the results of your interviews.
If your interview is on campus at UM, you can find out more about our locations on our virtual campus tour.
Reimbursement of travel expenses
If you have been invited for an in-person interview at a UM location, you can declare your travel costs afterwards by submitting our travel expense claim form.
Terms of employment meeting
If you are selected as the preferred candidate, a meeting to discuss terms of employment will be scheduled with the vacancy manager and/or an HR advisor. Following agreement on the terms, an employment contract will be drafted and sent to you.
Before you start
We aim to ensure everything is prepared for a smooth start on your first day. If you have any questions before beginning, please reach out to your new manager or HR advisor. If you are coming to Maastricht from abroad, our Knowledge Centre for International Staff will contact you and help you through every step of the moving and integration process. We look forward to welcoming you to our Maastricht University community!
