"Research to knowledge translation for hypertension control in primary care in India"

This thesis is the result of a PhD program designed in the background of poor blood pressure control rates despite the availability of simple cost-effec­tive solutions and the challenges faced by physicians in implementing treatment guidelines in India. The aim of the thesis was to understand the real world factors affecting research to knowledge translation for hyperten­sion control in primary care in India and to evaluate strate­gies for better clinical guideline implementation. The thesis included a deep dive into factors that influenced physician practices and also tested a healthcare model designed based on the thesis findings. Although the identification of barriers and facilitators in the PhD study were focused on hypertension and its control in India, the findings have broader implications and provides recommendations for improving the translation of knowledge to practice for primary care and chronic disease control in India, as well as in other low-to-middle income countries that face similar challenges.
