Curriculum Revision for the master Psychology (2027-2028)
The curriculum of the master Psychology will be revised in academic year 2027-2028, to ensure it aligns with the current bachelor programmes Psychology and Brain Science, national developments in psychology education (particularly in clinical psychology), changes in alignment with post-academic training (such as APV), accreditation recommendations, international academic standards, and developments in research, professional practice, and society.
When will the changes take effect?
Students who start a master’s programme before the revised curriculum is implemented will be able to complete the current programme. Those starting in 2026–2027 or earlier will have a transition period, during which courses that will no longer exist in the revised curriculum will be offered again. After one transition year, individual, tailor-made solutions will be provided where necessary, which may include completing a limited number of ECTS within the revised curriculum or providing extra exam opportunities.
How will the programme be structured?
The programme will consist of theoretical courses, practicals, electives, preparatory courses such as Academic Skills, Professional Skills, Research Proposal, and a master’s thesis course. The six current specialisations will continue to be offered.
Assessment will consist of a combination of graded components and pass/fail components, aligned with ECTS allocation and GPA calculation. For smaller components, such as professional skills, a portfolio may be used as a supplementary assessment method. The portfolio will not serve as a final overall assessment for the entire programme.
All students will receive an official transcript listing completed modules and awarded ECTS and will be assigned a mentor, as required by national regulations and current practice.
Clinical internship (specialisation Neuropsychology)
From 2027–2028 onwards, the clinical internship within the Neuropsychology specialisation of the master Psychology will no longer be offered. Students wishing to complete a clinical internship may do so through the master Mental Health, the research master Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience (Clinical Psychology or Neuropsychology specialisations), the master Forensic Psychology, or through a post-graduation clinical internship (as a non-degree seeking student).
Post-graduation clinical internship
For selected specialisations within the master Psychology, FPN currently offers alumni the opportunity to complete a clinical internship after graduation as a non-degree seeking student. Under specific conditions, this may count towards the Basisaantekening Psychodiagnostiek NIP (BAPD NIP) and vLOGO requirements. This post-graduation internship will be offered for the last time to students starting their master in 2028–2029, with internships beginning in 2029–2030.
