This thesis investigates the role of a novel Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) called Bigheart, in Cardiac Hypertrophy, a severe cardiac condition that can lead to heart failure.  The thesis shows this lncRNA plays a vital role in reinforcing one of the most critical molecular signals that governs cardiac hypertrophy, providing a newly previously unidentified therapeutic target for heart failure. Furthermore, several techniques of DNA and RNA sequencing technology were applied to establish the full extension of the functions of Bigheart on the molecular level, revealing that this lncRNA is involved in several processes of cardiac differentiation and providing a compressive overview of how deregulation of LncRNA can play a pivotal role in several cardiac pathologies.
