"The role of induction chemotherapy in the treatment of locally recurrent rectal cancer"
By improvements in the treatment of rectal cancer, the incidence of local recurrence has fortunately decreased. However, for patients with recurrent rectal cancer, treatment options are scarce. This thesis describes the effect of adding chemotherapy to improve surgical and survival outcomes. This thesis also highlights the importance of adequate imaging techniques to evaluate response to treatment in order to select the patients that will benefit from intensive treatment.
