"Optimizing Quality of Endoscopic Care for Large Colorectal Polyps and T1 Colorectal Cancers"
The detection of large non-pedunculated colorectal polyps (LNPCPs) and submucosal invasive colorectal cancers (T1 CRCs) has increased since the widespread implementation of screening programs for colorectal cancer. The outcomes of the colorectal cancer screening program could be improved by optimal treatment of these lesions.
This dissertation investigated the characterization of polyps, in particular optical diagnosis and selection of the most appropriate resection technique, as well as the most performed technique to treat large non-pedunculated colorectal polyps.
In summary, it was shown that the optical diagnosis and endoscopic treatment of LNPCPs and T1 CRCs could be improved by the implementation of standardized training programs This improvement leads to less repeated colonoscopies, less additional surgery, and more organ-preserving treatment strategies, which directly benefits patients.
