"AI in Nursing Homes: Utilizing Artificial Intelligence to Enhance Data-analysis in Long-term Care for Older Adults "
The PhD project examined how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can improve long-term care (LTC) for older adults, focusing on enhancing data collection and analysis regarding quality of care. The thesis addressed two main challenges: creating tools to streamline data collection and using AI to analyse data regarding quality of care. It reviewed the current use of AI in LTC and developed practical tools like an app for observing daily life in care facilities. This showed that feedback from end-users was crucial to the development of tools in LTC. The research also developed an automatic speech recognition system for older adults, saving time in processing interviews. By applying AI techniques to qualitative data (e.g. interviews with residents, family and care professionals), this thesis identified novel patterns and insights related to quality of care. It showed how AI tools could complement traditional methods like manual data analysis. The thesis emphasized the importance of using AI methods to gain deeper insights into the quality of care.
