Maarten Doorman is Ass. Professor at the Department of Philosophy at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University Maastricht and Endowed Professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam for DIA (Duitsland Instituut Amsterdam). Before, he was endowed professor in Literary Criticism at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (2000-2004) and held the Chair of Criticism of Arts and Culture at the University of Amsterdam (2004-2014).
Doorman was editor of the literary magazine Hollands Maandblad and the philosophical journal Krisis. He has been a critic of philosophy, poetry and history of ideas for NRC Handelsblad, de Volkskrant and De Groene Amsterdammer. He has been contributor to many journals with articles about philosophy, art and literature. Hist last books are Art in Progress. A Philosophical Response to the End of the Avant-Garde (2003), De romantische orde (2004), Paralipomena (2007), Rousseau en ik (2012), De navel van Daphne (2016) and Dichtbij en ver weg (2018).

Career history

Maarten Doorman was endowed professor in Literary Criticism at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (2000-2004) and held the Chair of Journalist Criticism of Arts and Culture at the University of Amsterdam (2004-2014). He was editor of the literary magazine Hollands Maandblad and the philosophical journal Krisis and he has been a critic of philosophy, poetry and history of ideas for NRC Handelsblad, De Groene Amsterdammer and de Volkskrant (1993-1995, 2006-). He has been contributor to many journals with articles about philosophy, art and literature. His last books are Art in Progress. A Philosophical Response to the End of the Avant-Garde (2003), De romantische orde (2004), Paralipomena (2007) and Rousseau en ik (2012), De navel van Daphne. Over kunst en engagement (2016) and Dichtbij en ver weg (2018). Doorman participated in many radio programms and in the television programs Zeeman met boeken (1997-2002) Noorderlicht (VPRO) and Ik denk dus ik ben (HUMAN).
