Dr. Katja (Ekaterina) Zilonova is a Senior Research Scientist in the Computational Precision Health Department at Novo Nordisk's London R&D Hub, focusing on Digital Biology, AI, and Digital Innovation. She holds a PhD in Biomedical Engineering and possesses extensive expertise in deep learning, medical imaging, real-world evidence, and causal inference.

Dr. Zilonova's current research aims at a holistic understanding of cardiovascular diseases. She emphasizes comprehensive disease characterization through the integration of electronic medical records, medical imaging, and proteomics. Her interests include the discovery of novel biomarkers to improve patient stratification and support the identification of new therapies. Additionally, she is focused on enhancing the causal understanding of treatment effects and therapies through causal machine learning methods.

Her diverse background spans positions in industry with Novo Nordisk and Philips, academia at KU Leuven and National Taiwan University, and public healthcare with the NHS and UZ Leuven Hospital. Coupled with an MSc in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, Dr. Zilonova brings a multifaceted perspective and is passionate about harnessing the power of AI, deep learning, and machine learning in clinical research.

At the WiDS Maastricht 2025 Conference, Katja will hold a talk entitled "iCARE4CVD: A journey into harmonising and analysing multiple heart failure cohort studies", together with her colleagues Visara Urovi and Hajar Ghaem Sigarchian.
